CHURCH COUNCIL MINUTES

June 2008

Vice President Wayne Jacobs called the meeting to order. Dave Sime was absent. Carolyn Martinson led with devotions starting with the 23rd Psalm and telling about how the Lord “restores” us. The secretary’s report was approved.

Committee Reports:

Treasurer’s Report: Mike Bute – May income to all accounts was $11,902.43. The expenses for the month were $12,182.04. The checking account balance was $546.50 at month’s end. There was $746.55 in the Property Fund. Debt on the promissory notes remains at $8,320. Mike and Lorraine are optimistic the Church may get through the summer without turning to the operating loan.

Christian Ed: Carolyn Martinson – No meeting.

Property and Grounds: Wayne Miland – The committee had a meeting and discussed spraying foam on the Fireside room ceiling and also the northeast entry ceiling. The entry would be done more for conserving energy as the Fireside room would be to make the ceiling look better. The sidewalk project is a “go”, which will help stop seepage into the basement and make the church more attractive. Wayne is looking into getting more bids on the roof over the educational unit. The railings leading down the stairs by the office are being repaired and will be put back up. They were taken down, as they were hazardous the way they were.

Worship and Music: Linda Wasmoen and Carolyn Martinson – The outdoor worship was discussed, as well as the new summer schedule. The Wednesday evening service will be the same as the coming Sunday service. Bette Fulton will be giving a reading on Father’s Day and the men of the congregation will be receiving a “treat”.

Stewardship: Dawn Armstrong – Dawn and Mike Bute met and discussed Simply Giving. They would like to encourage congregation members to participate in this automated giving program. Through this program the congregation benefits from steady, more predictable revenues, which is especially helpful during the summer months when offering drops off and fluctuates a lot.

Memorial and Gifts: Ruthann Gaard  - No meeting.

Evangelism: Neil Pierce and Karen Erickson – Captive Free has been lined up for September 13 and 14. The committee will meet with the youth committee to finalize this weekend.

Youth: Dave Sime and Wayne Jacobs –The committee is meeting regularly and still working on fundraising ideas. They have been getting workers lined up for the Morin Lake Days food stand. The first walk in their Walk-a-Thon will be July 9 after worship.

Missions: Jon Duncan – The committee is donating $100 towards the Morin Lake Days food stand. They also gave $200 to King’s Aid. Mission speakers in June will be for Good Earth Village. The July speaker for Mission Sunday is a representative from the Marie Sandvik Center.

Other Items:

The Council is to be thinking about moving some money from the escrow account to something more lucrative to earn more interest.

The plans were finalized for the Burger and Brat Feed on June 11.

It was decided to not meet in July unless something urgent comes up. Our next scheduled meeting will be August 12 at 7:00 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Jill Mathiason, Secretary
